Charles Newell “Chuck”Kelsey
February 20, 1945-July 15, 2014

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles "Chuck" Newell Kelsey, aged 69, of Lake Elsinore, California.  Chuck passed away on July 15, 2014 at Inland Valley Medical Center after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Chuck was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on February 20, 1945 to James Norman Kelsey and Mary Evelyn (Wood) Kelsey.  He was the youngest of five siblings: Barbara, James, Elliot, John, and Charles.  The family relocated to Ocotillo, California when Chuck was very young.

After graduating from high school, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on various ships in the Pacific Fleet, including the USS Guadalupe and an amphibious unit. During this time, Chuck met and married his soul mate and spouse of 43 years, Marietta. They had two children together, David and Victoria.

When Chuck was honorably discharged from the Navy, he continued his advanced engineering work with optics and laser systems working for research and development laboratories throughout California, including specific collaborative work in Japan and Switzerland.  His contributions survive in the form of several corporate-owned patents and peer-reviewed publications.

Chuck loved the outdoors; hiking and fishing were two of his favorite leisure activities.  He was also quite happy to be in control of various motor vehicles, and even competed in the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix in three separate years.

Chuck was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marietta, and his parents.  He was also preceded by his brothers, James, Elliot, and John.  Chuck is survived by his son, David Elliott Kelsey (Lori), and daughter, Victoria Eileen Frerichs (Jason). Also surviving Chuck are his sister, Barbara Albus (Bill); his five grandsons, David Keith, Justin, Craig, Kurt, and Benjamin; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Join us in mourning his passing, but also in celebrating his quick wit, kind heart, and spirit of service.
