83 years old passed away on February 5, 2014 at her home in Perris, CA. Thelma was born April 20, 1930 in Glendale, California. Her family moved to Compton where she lived until she married Reid Pate in 1946. She and Reid moved to Long Beach in 1952 where they raised their two wonderful children. She worked at Sears, Roebuck and Co. for over 20 years. After leaving Sears, she and Reid bought the Red Witch Bar and Grill in Compton. In 1979 they bought the Good Hope Bar and Grill and moved to Perris. Thelma ran the Good Hope from 1979 – 1994 when she retired.
In her late teens, Thelma was a Baton Majorette and marched in the Rose Parade. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and cooking for her family and friends. She was an active member of the VFW Post 888 Ladies Auxiliary in Perris and previously held the position of Guard.
Thelma is survived by her son, Rawleigh Pate of Vancouver, WA; daughter, Sheila Pate of Chino; grandsons Ben Hugo (Heather) of Chino, Kevin Hugo of Eastvale and Adam Stopka (Teresa) of Issaquah, WA; great-grandson Logan Hugo and great-granddaughter Keira Hugo both of Chino; sisters Esther Gruenhagen (Dick) of Downey; Bonnie Saas of Perris; sister-in-law, Kay Pate of Victorville and several nephews and nieces.
VISITATION: Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Evans-Brown Mortuary, 385 W. 4th Street, Perris 92570 from the hours of 3:00 – 7:00 pm.
GRAVESIDE SERVICES: Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Drive, Riverside 92518 at 2:00 pm.
