Elsie Margarette Smith

Elsie Margarette Smith was born in Boonsboro, Maryland on January 6, 1917 to parents Ernest and Anna Doub.  She was raised in Maryland and graduated from Hagerstown High School before attending nursing school.  Elsie married Woodrow Smith in 1937 and in 1941, they moved to California.  Professionally, she worked as a nurse for 30 years.

Elsie is survived by her children Gerald Smith & Judith Linstruth (Jim); grandson Lance Harding (Julie); 4 great-grandchildren Isaac, Sarah, John & Hanna; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow and her 3 siblings. 

Elsie enjoyed doing many different types of crafts.  She did painting, knitting, and paper tole.  She also enjoyed traveling.  She traveled with her husband on many cruises including the Panama Canal, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawaii. 

Elsie passed away on June 1, 2017 at home.  Her family and friends alike will miss her caring ways, take charge attitude, and strong-willed spirit. A viewing and service will be held at the Sun City United Methodist Church on Tuesday 6/13 at 10:00 am and 11:00 am, respectively.  A reception will follow.  Interment will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Calimesa, California.
