Gina Marie Schmidt

Gina was born April 16, 1979 in Bakersfield, CA.  The oldest daughter of Virginia and John Canaday, she lived most of her life in Southern California, was a graduate of Highland High School (Palmdale) in 1997, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree Cum Laude in Nutrition from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2001.  Married to Matt Schmidt in 2002 and became mother to Tommy Schmidt in 2010.  She passed away after a prolonged illness on Friday, May 12, 2017.  Gina was loved by all that met her and will be dearly missed.  Survived by her husband, parents, sister Ann, and brother Jim, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.  Preceded in death by her son Tommy and brothers Chris and Mike.  She enjoyed playing board games, spending time with friends and family, and anything that had Mickey Mouse on it.  A professional dietitian for most of her adult life, Gina enjoyed assisting others make healthy diet and life choices.  Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, June 24th at 11 am at Temple Baptist Church located at 745 N Perris Blvd, Perris CA, 92571.  Reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.JDRF.org.
