OBITUARY
William Robert Eckburg was born in DeKalb, Illinois on November 28, 1946. He was the eldest of five children born to Robert and Beverly Eckburg. He grew up mainly in California; Bill attended West High School in Torrance and graduated with the class of 1965. He then went on to work for Hughes Aircraft Company, shortly after was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War in 1966-1968. After his military service, he came back to work for Hughes as a Construction Engineer. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Long Beach City College, as well as a General Contractor’s License. He worked for Hughes Aircraft to 29 dedicated years.
In 1975 Bill married the love of his life Cindy Mayer, and together they were blessed with two children Steven and Kristi. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to Big Bear Lake, fishing, playing bingo, watching Nascar races, going on adventures with his granddaughter Taylor, garage sale hunting, and was definitely an avid collector. He will always be remembered for his dedication to always helping others, his ability to fix and do anything, his humor, feistiness, and the love he gave to everyone.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Beverly Eckburg; and his sister Linda Eckburg. He leaves behind to cherish and live in his memory his loving wife of 42 years Cindy, two children Steven and Kristi and son in law Martin, two grandchildren Taylor and Connor; three brothers, Ronnie, Jeff, and David, and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
