Alexander Martinez passed away in Hemet, California on 13 January 2022 from natural causes. Alexander is survived by his children Alex, Mark, Michelle, Frances, John, Christina, Alex, Samuel, Elizabeth, and Gabriel, in addition to 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was born 12 August 1939 in Los Angeles, CA to Fermen and Angelita Martinez. He was one of four children and attended High School in Inglewood, California. Prior to graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps at 16 years of age. Following recruit training and occupational school he participated in combat operations in the Republic of Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, Alexander worked for the Los Angeles Rapid Transit District and Riverside Mass Transit Authority until his retirement 2009. During this time Alexander continued his service as a Marine Reservist at El Toro, California.
Always the sports enthusiast, Alexander was a hardcore fan of the Los Angeles, Oakland, and Las Vegas Raiders. In addition, he also enjoyed watching the LA Lakers and spending time at the VFW with others who served in the military.
Alexander had a great sense of humor and always sought the opportunity to crack a joke and a smile when the opportunity presented itself. He was always willing to help a family member and truly loved all his children. Later in his life he came across “Lady”, his trusted dog and companion who he would take just about everywhere with him. Dad will be missed by all he knew and will forever be a part of our lives. He taught us all what it was to have a great work ethic and to stand up for what you believe in. Thank you dad for all you did for your children.
A Little While
Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow,
But remember me in every tomorrow…
Remember the joy, the laughter,
the smiles,
I’ve only gone to rest a little while.
Although my leaving
causes pain and grief
My going has eased my hurt
And given me relief.
So dry your eyes and remember me,
Not as I am now, but as I used to be.
Because I will remember you all
And look on with a smile.
Understand in your hearts
I’ve only gone to rest a little while.
