Ann Marie Gomes

Ann Marie Gomes passed away peacefully on the 3rd of June 2019 at the age of 81.

Ann Marie Cooper was born on February 1st 1938 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Anthony Norman and Bertha Mae Cooper. Marie as she was always called, was raised in New Jersey and surrounded by a loving family.  

Marie was the oldest of 2 children, Marie and her younger sister Maxine. Marie attended school in the New Jersey school system and graduated from Linden High School. After graduation she enlisted in the Air Force. She was active in the Air Force from 1956 – 1963 and was stationed in London, England.

After leaving the Military, she worked at General Motors in New Jersey until she retired and relocated to Wildomar, CA. Marie then started working at Perris H.S. as a Security Guard and worked there until she retired for the second time. Marie loved being around young people and  believed in teaching them to appreciate each moment and what they could achieve with their lives.

Marie always had a uniqueness with anyone she encountered.

She was always surrounded by family and friends, and anyone who was her friend became her family.  Marie loved being surrounded by people. Food and laughter were always on the menu and sometimes even a game of cards.

Marie was blessed with so many talents… she was a fabulous cook, a talented seamstress, a knitter, a photographer, a jokester and her other job was that of a card player.  When she said she was going to work, she meant she was going to play cards. Marie loved board games, Chess and Backgammon. She loved to play, talk and shared stories and jokes over a game. Marie could win any game she played.

Marie had many specialties when it came to cooking, but one of the special things she was known for was her delicious Sweet Potato Pies and Sweet Potato Turnovers.                                         If you have not had either, you really missed out.

Marie was also a Jokester, who loved telling jokes and loved the sound of laughter and to see people Happy.  She was always there to help, anywhere and anytime.

You could always depend on her.  Marie was the kindest person who always shared her love, her food, hospitality and heart. Marie expressed love through her acts of kindness.

She had that special something that I am sure we’ll all miss.   

She frequently visited Unity Fellowship Church and introduced the idea of making welcome scarfs to newcomers. They were various shades of purple. And  really helped people feel welcomed. She had a way of making people feel special.

Marie was truly an angel on earth.  Words can’t even describe what she meant to all of us.

God has now welcomed our beloved Marie into heaven.

Marie is survived by her sister Maxine Wright, Nephews -Thomas & Eric and her niece Brittany, Baron & Theresa King and their daughters Aja, Chenel & Miya, God-Daughter Lorraine McGriff,  ~

The Allen Family, The Cooper Family, The Watson Family, The Wright Family, The Moore Family, The McGriff’ Family, The Deeks Family, The Givens Family, The Coleman Family and a host of relatives, cousins, loved ones and many, many friends.

Marie is preceded in death by Father – Anthony Norman, Mother – Bertha Mae Cooper and her longtime partner Ruth Naomi King.
