Tribute

Ardis Elaine Liddle (nee Reimers) died peacefully at home, aged 91 on March 26, 2021. She was born in 1929 and raised on farms in the Sioux Valley area on the Minnesota/Iowa border, oldest daughter of Ernest C. and Mabel K. Reimers. She was working as a schoolteacher in late 1949 when she met and fell in love with George L. Liddle, a WWII vet. Their whirlwind romance led to an elopement to Rapid City the following June. Over the next decades, the Air Force moved them and their two children around from South Dakota to England, Iowa, Texas and Mississippi before George retired from the service and moved the family to San Diego in 1967. Work took George and Ardis to Port Hueneme and L.A. before George retired for good and moved to Sun City, CA in 1989 where Ardis was able to plant her rose bushes and hang out her hummingbird feeders for the last time.

Ardis is survived by daughter Layne Liddle (partner Jay Sohi) and son George Lee Liddle, Jr. (Celeste), both attorneys, grandchildren George III (Dr. Marisa Zarchy), Marina Liddle Hayes (Brad), and Kenneth Liddle as well as younger sisters Marilyn Bauer and Karen Ahrenstorff, sister-in-law Sharon Liddle and their families.  Grandson George’s son Maxwell was born just a few weeks after her death.

Ardis loved crossword puzzles, pinochle, and fishing for walleyes and was a voracious reader of mystery and spy novels. She was famous for her beef stew and divine holiday dinners. She was truly loved by all and was unfailingly warm, kind and polite. Ardis was bright, positive, and unflappable to the end, even when the twinkle in her blue eyes was fading. The world would be a much better place if more of us could be like this wonderful woman. We will all miss her greatly!

Her family wishes to thank Terri, her most devoted caregiver, and Kaiser Hospice staff, all of whom helped make her final years as comfortable as possible.  She will be interred on April 27, 2021 at 11:00 am at Riverside National Cemetery, next to her beloved George Sr. who died in 2011.
