Aurea D. Mendoza

Aurea D. Mendoza, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at home in Murrieta, California.  She was born July 19, 1932, and a graduate of Philippine Women's University.  Aurea married Jose in 1958 in Santa Ana, Manila, Philippines.

Aurea was a devoted wife and a loving mother.  She was a wonderful cook who prepared countless delicious meals.  She would single-handedly prepare mouthwatering Christmas feasts of Filipino and American dishes, saying "Kain na tayo!" which means, "Let's eat!".   She also enjoyed travelling, family gatherings, and jewelry, and she was a huge Elvis Presley fan.  Aurea was proud to be Barrio Queen in her home village of Ibabao and to be selected by her college instructor to be the first student for the practice home for her major.  She also loved working as an aide in San Diego nursing homes and at the Navy Exchange in Dallas, where she was awarded Employee of the Month.  Aurea truly loved her family and extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was so loved by her family that she was repeatedly asked to act as a godmother and had over a dozen godchildren.  She especially enjoyed stay-over visits from friends and relatives.  Her personal quote from her college yearbook reads, "To be simple is to be great."  Aurea is survived by her loving husband Jose, 3 children, their spouses, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren who will fondly remember her protective nature, continual laughter and joy, and for always teaching her family to put the needs of others over selfish needs and to be proud of their heritage.
