Betty May Evarts

Betty May Evarts moved on from this world at the age of 91 from Menifee, California on Sunday, January 6, 2019.

She is survived by her children: Steve Evarts and wife Joanie of Canyon Lake, CA, Lin Newcomb and husband Jim of Buchanan, TN and Duane Evarts and wife Charlene of Colorado Springs, CO; her grandchilddren: Kevin Evarts of Carlsbad, CA and Amy van Esch and husband Rob of Fullerton, CA and her great-grandchildren: Sheridan Evarts, Ella von Esch, Lex von Esch and Addison Evarts. She is preceded in death by her husband James "Jim" Evarts after 67 years of marriage.

Betty was born on June 9,  1927 in Los Angeles, California to her parents Harvey and Nellie Christensen. She graduated from high school in 1945. That same year she met her husband and married after six months of courtship. She and Jim continued to reside in Long Beach for the next six years until they purchased their first home in Lakewood, California. They lived in Lakewood for 53 years as they raised their three children. In 2003 she and Jim sold their home in Lakewood and moved to Canyon Lake, CA for 4 years until moving to Brookdale Senior Living Center, where she has resided for the past 10 years.

Shortly after Betty graduated from high school she became a bookkeeper for the local Woolworth's store. Soon thereafter she became a homemaker raising three wonderful children and helped her husband run their family jewelry store business in Lakewood.

Betty loved her family and took pride in spending quality time with them. She was very involved in her children's life and schooling. Betty was a very dedicated loving wife and supported Jim in all that he did. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed keeping in touch with family through writing letters and journaling, she also loved to travel.
