Billie Ruth Hewitt

May 8th,1942 - March 27th, 2022

Billie Ruth Hewitt (Eller), age 79, passed away at her residence in Homeland, California, surrounded by her loved ones.

Billie was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on May 8, 1942, to Ira Hill Eller and Radie Lottie Donaldson, the second youngest of 8 children, 3 girls and 5 boys. She and her family grew up harvesting and transporting crops, mainly potatoes and onions, from southern Oregon, through Nevada, to the Perris Valley in California. Billie was temporarily staying with her older sister Jean and brother-in-law Andrew in Romoland California in 1956 where she initially met the great love of her life, Richard Hewitt. Though these two were fated to wed, Billie traveled with her family back to Porterville, California for a time, cutting their teenage romance short. In 1960 Bille returned to Romoland with her family, reuniting with Richard after six years. They wed on December 14, 1963 and welcomed their first child, Kevin, exactly one year later. Four years later, Billie had the couple's second child Steven, and their family was complete. Billie attended cosmetology school and opened her own beauty salon at her home in Hemet.

Billie lived a lifetime of adventure, traveling with Richard across North America often. Billie spent the fall and winter season traveling between Homeland  and Ocotillo Wells, with loved ones always in tow. One could often find Billie riding her four wheeler out on the trail, hunting cacti and rocks to add to her intricately decorated cactus garden or packing snacks for a jeep trip with her boys. Billie spent many afternoons in her camping trailer teaching her loved ones the art of playing Skip-Bo, rarely letting anyone beat her.

Billie was a devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother. No Thanksgiving or Christmas gathering was complete without her famed Pumpkin Rolls, a tradition that continues to live on in the kitchens of her loved ones. Always ready with a glass of iced tea and a shaded patio, Billie looked after everyone that entered her life.

To know Billie, “Aunt Billie”, “Nanny B”,  was to know love. She will forever be an inspiration to those that knew her and those that will grow to know her story.

Billie lives on through her husband Richard, her sons Kevin and Steven, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and countless loved ones.
