Harold L. Melton “Deacon Harold” was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on January 28, 1925 and passed away at home in Murrieta, California on May 9, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Lorraine Melton; 6 children Sheila Stamper, John Melton, Suzanne Smith, Michael Melton, Thomas Melton, & Teresa Gill; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many step grandchildren, step great- grandchildren and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his children Paul & Aileen Melton.
Harold proudly served his county for 20 years in the Marine Corps wherein he retired as Gunnery Sergeant. He then went on to own and operate several gas stations in Orange County. After selling his businesses, Harold became a Deacon in the Catholic Church at St. John the Baptist in Costa Mesa. He was a man of God, steadfast in his faith and loved serving others. He went on to serve at St. Catherine’s in Temecula and finally at St. Martha’s in Murrieta.
Over the years, Deacon Harold enjoyed being outdoors camping, fishing, and boating. He loved spending time with his family. Babies brought him a lot of joy. Harold was a very artistic and a meticulous person that had a knack of solving any issues that came about. Family and friends will miss his loving ways, positive attitude, compassionate heart, and calming spirit.
