TRIBUTE TO RICHARD DEAN HINCKLE (January 20, 1943 to September 26, 2017) FROM TOM FRICK

It is with great sadness that I find myself writing a tribute to my lifelong friend, classmate and teammate, Dick Hinckle. Dick passed peacefully sitting by his pool, puffing on one of his beloved stinky cigars and boy will I miss that smell.
Dick and I met in the 5th grade at Hazel Dell grade school in Springfield, Illinois when my family moved to Illinois from the east coast. Dick quickly showed me what a fine leader and athlete he already was even at that young age. We played together on a number of teams in every major sport all the way through Springfield High School. Dick was unquestionably one of the finest athletes ever produced by the Springfield school system and went on to play professional baseball for several years. In his middle and later years golf became his favorite sport and, as usual, he excelled at the game.
While we went many years before getting back together, after doing so we did have the opportunity to play several rounds of golf together with our other classmates and former teammates, Bill Cornman and Bob Plohr. Those were fun times and Dick often displayed his wonderful sense of humor and his love for a good martini (or two).
Unfortunately, these get togethers had to be curtailed when Dick began to have health problems which he fought for four years with the help and untiring devotion of his loving wife Connie.
A great friend, and delightfully fun guy to be around, Dick positively touched the lives of a great many people. I, and his many other friends, will miss him deeply. He went too soon at 74 which he would have playfully told you is only 2 over par.

Dear Connie, Anna & Family,

We are so saddened to hear of Dicks passing. Lew worked with Dick in Real Estate and so we got to know what a great person he was. We had so much fun with Dick and Connie. We wish we would have stayed in touch but unfortunately we didn't. I too am a care giver Connie as Lew had a stroke Aug. 11 2016 and has failed more since then. God bless you Connie and let him wrap you in his loving arms.

By blood you were my cousin but in reality you meant so much more and that is why I always called you Uncle Dick and Aunt Connie. The picture Aunt Connie picked of you sums up exactly your persona, your style, and your confidence. You had a way of making everyone around you feel great. The little grin on your face, the collar up on your jacket and the cigar in your hand makes me think that you just sank a putt against the guys in the background and took some money from them. And there isn't a doubt in my mind that something was wagered on that round. Uncle Dick I miss you like crazy already and I just wish we had one more day to be together. I regret not getting to see you when you were sick, but part of me is grateful for that because the only memories I have are good ones. I love you and I promise to look after Aunt Connie forever. Uncle Dick you are in my "Hall of Fame"

Always called Dick "Dicko" since I don't know when...he was so positive and just fun and easy to spend time with, Connie and I moved into Dicks townhouse along with our cat and wow, he welcomed all of us.. Our cat took to Dick so quickly I was amazed...After our first month or so, Connie decided to make a tuna casserole, one of our childhood favs but there was no tuna cans in the cabinet and she had just bought quite a few AGAIN...I had no clue but when she asked Dicko and showed him where she kept the cans he just looked and said Ohhhhhh....Yes, our cat went from Purina to Bumble Bee and was quite pleased with his new roommate Dicko Hinckle and his new living arrangements. We have so many wonderful memories of Dick and we are so blessed to have been part of his life....
