Tribute

Donald Heidler entered eternal life Monday, November 9, 2020. He was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania on May 25, 1928 to Walter and Mary Heidler. Most of his childhood was spent growing up in Winchester, California. His sister, Virginia, and two stepbrothers, Warren and Ron, were each dear to him. In 1947, he married Frances Pirot and together they had three sons, Dan, Larry and Don Jr.

Don lived a life filled with love. He cherished his family and was proud of his years of service in the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a Naval aviator. His family pulled together during his years of service while deployed overseas serving our country. His experience with aviation and mechanical aptitude led Don to a post-military career at McDonnell Douglas as a training manager for the DC-10 program.

After retiring, Don spent time exploring the beauty and adventure of Colorado during the years he and Frances lived in Fruita. He always enjoyed moments with his family, especially the many summer vacations camping, boating and fishing with his sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Don also enjoyed hunting and the friendships he made during his lifetime.

Family was the center of Don’s life. He enjoyed the times together during the holidays, family parties, and celebrations such as weddings, graduations, and even his grandchildren’s school programs. He was extremely proud of his family and up to his final days told us, “I have the best family in the world.”

In 2016 Don married Carol Sohm and resided in Sun City, California. They enjoyed their years together traveling and caring for one another. Their travels included a memorable land and sea vacation to Alaska as well as a family trip to Oahu. Don felt blessed by the love and companionship Carol brought to his life.

Don was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, friend and “Chief”.
