Kari was a cherished member of her family, leaving behind her devoted husband of 20 years, Joshua McGowan, and their beloved son, Liam McGowan. She is also survived by her twin sister Kimberly (Justin) Luyben, parents Art & Patty Tavizon, In-laws Tim and Melanie McGowan, mother-in-law Carla McGowan, brother-in-law Phillip (Marissa) McGowan, sister-in-law Caitlyn McGowan (Kathryn Sirp), and her beloved nieces and nephews Kailyn (Jacob), Emma, Grace, Justin Jr., Brendan, Shane, Elliott, & Wesley. Kari was a woman of great intellect, possessing a Bachelor's degree from California State Long Beach, two Master's degrees from Azusa Pacifica and National University respectively, and a Doctorate degree from San Diego State University. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to Comprehensive High Schools, beginning her career as an English Teacher and eventually becoming the Principal of Tahquitz High School in Hemet, California. Her influence, evident in the nicknames "Tiny but Mighty" and "Crash Bang," extended far beyond the classroom. Kari was a mentor to countless students, imbuing in them a belief in their abilities and potential. Her philosophy of Servant Leadership and dedication to her work earned her the admiration of students, staff, and families alike.
Kari had a zest for life that was reflected in her varied interests. She was an avid reader, a world traveler, and a lover of Mediterranean cruises. Her fondness for decorating was matched only by her love for collecting Starbucks coffee cups from around the world. A fan of Rae Dunn and Angel Wings, Kari had an extensive collection that reflected her unique taste. Her love for music was eclectic, spanning from Notorious BIG and New Kids on the Block to country music.
Kari was also known for her deep love for her family. She was a proud "Auntie Mommy" to her nieces and nephews and shared a special bond with her twin sister, Kim. The two were known for their rapid, almost telepathic conversations, often finishing each other's sentences.
A true fashionista, Kari was always impeccably dressed and had a fondness for the color pink and anything that glittered. She was a woman of many facets - beautiful, intelligent, magnetic, passionate, determined, loyal, funny, dedicated, and inspirational.
Kari lived by the principle of putting God first, family and friends second, and her career third. This faith-filled approach to life was a testament to her character and a guiding light for those who knew her.
In remembering Kari, we celebrate a life well-lived, a woman of substance, and a beacon of love and intelligence. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to have known her.
“She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten.”
