Eike Helmut Hohenadl

Eike Helmut Hohenadl, retired U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer, entered eternal life on Friday, April 25, 2014 while skydiving in Eloy, AZ.  Eike was born in Germany on August 20, 1941 to Ekkehart and Brigitte Hohenadl. He emigrated to the USA in 1956 and after graduating from Rossville High School in Georgia, Eike joined the United States Navy. This was the start of a 35 year naval career, retiring with the rank of Captain. Eike received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Long Beach State University.  He retired as an Environmental Program Manager, Navy Region Southwest.  Eike was also assigned as the Officer in Charge of the dismantling and disposal program for the entire U.S. inventory of napalm bombs at the Fallbrook Naval Station.

Eike had a passion for skydiving, having started skydiving in 1985 and had almost 6000 jumps. One of the many accomplishments of which he was most proud was that he was the oldest person to ever complete jump school at Ft. Benning, Ga. He was Captain of the Golden Stars Skydiving Team and a senior member as well as Western Regional Director of the United States Parachute Association. He also belonged to the Golden Triangle Amateur Radio Club, the Lake Elsinore Historical Society, Lake Elsinore Citizen’s Committee, the Red Cross, and the Inland Empire of the Commemorative Air Force.  Travel, science, the military and skydiving were some of his favorite pastimes.

Eike is survived by the love of his life, Joyce Ann (Christoff) Hohenadl, who he married  in 1964, son Eike Alan Hohenadl, brothers Udo Schroff (Fran) and Leroy Bratton (Pat), brother-in-law Bill Christoff, long-time family friends Carol Wakefield, Michael Burt, Jay Fragoso, and Peter (Claz) Clasby (Nicki).  Also, many relatives, friends and the close-knit skydiving community, and his beloved kitties, Casper & Mystic. He was preceded in death by his parents Ekkehart Hohenadl and Brigitte Mueller, brother Ekkehart, and sisters-in-law Karen Itterly and Claudia Pearl, as well as mother and father-in law William and Bertha Christoff.   A true gentleman, we will always remember him for his kindness, caring and mentoring to anyone who needed a kind word or advice on just about any subject. He will be profoundly missed.

There will be a celebration of life at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2014 at Lamb’s Fellowship in Lake Elsinore, California. Committal prayers and military honors will follow at 1:15p.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California, followed by a reception at Lamb’s Fellowship.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Elsinore Historical Society or the Vietnam Veterans of America.
