Remembering You

I remember
All those trips to Tahoe,
Greeted by a kiss on the cheek
And hugs at the door.
I remember
Dinners at The Cantina,
How her laughter bounced off the walls
At weddings.
“Holy cow!” and “Holy mackerel!” she’d say, tickled.
I remember
That magic door,
Gifts for the grandkids.
I remember
Staying over at her house
And waking up to the smell of
Sizzling bacon,
Eating her famous sloppy joes,
Hearing her tea kettle hiss,
Drinking her hot chocolate
After another day in the snow.
I remember
Her love of cheesecake
And family gatherings.
I remember
Her phone calls and emails
And her love of Christmas
And Italian food.
I remember
Peering outside the back window,
Watching her wave as we’d drive home
From her house in Tahoe.
I remember,
I remember,
I remember it all.
She may be gone,
But I promise she’ll never be forgotten,
For she’ll always be loved by all of us.
