George J. Malek suddenly passed away in his Temecula home on the morning of December 8, 2018 from a heart attack at the age of 88. He was born December 6, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Emil and Mary Malek. George grew up in Maple Heights, he received his Bachelor in Engineering from Cass Western Reserve and Masters in Nuclear Engineering in Southern California. He married his childhood sweetheart, Rose Civette in 1952 and then moved to Venice, California. George and Rose settled in Poway to raise their four children while he worked at General Atomics in La Jolla as a Thermo Nuclear Engineer for almost 40 years. He experienced the wonder of many scientific developments in nuclear power and computers. His hobbies include an avid interest in photography, golfing, snow skiing, and camping which lead to serious backpacking and mountain climbing. One of his big climbs was to the top of Mt. Whitney in the 70’s. He really loved road trips and traveled all over the country and backpacking Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier and more recently exploring Anza Borrego Desert. George is survived by his three remaining children, Dan Malek, Big Bear; Don Malek, Lakeside; Debbie Malek, Anderson; two sisters Helen and Kathy, Ohio; 8 grand children and 9 great grand children. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit and be greatly missed.
