Mauck, Harold Lee "Skeets" Obituary
Harold Lee Mauck was born on November 14, 1927. Harold was known to friends and family as "Skeets". He passed away on August 15, 2018, at the age of 92 years.
Skeets was born and raised, in Hammond, IN, along with his two sisters Idafern and Berneice “Birdie”. He joined the Navy at 18, served in WWII and was stationed in Hilo, Hawaii. He received the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. On October 4, 1947 he married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Lil”. They settled in Lynwood. In 1953, they purchased their first home in Bellflower.
In 1971, they purchased 14 acres in the Los Alamos Hills of Murrieta, CA. Together he and his wife created a ranch that included a cattle farm and peach orchard. They would tend to the ranch early mornings before driving to Anaheim to work at Rockwell International. Harold worked in the Maintenance Department and Lil was a Secretary. They both retired in 1987, after 35 years.
Harold was active in his community having served on the Board of the Murrieta Town Hall for many years. They held numerous town events (many of which have become city traditions today), scholarships and fundraisers; having donated $750,000 to the Salvation Army. He enjoyed bowling and could be found at the Murrieta Bowling Alley two times a week. His biggest passion was fishing and being an outdoorsman.
He was an incredible husband, father and friend. His legacy will continue through his influence over his beautiful family. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 71 years, sister Idafern, daughter Gayle (Nyberg), granddaughter Crystal (Anthony) and two great grandchildren Alyssa and Aiden Anthony.
A viewing will be held at the Evans Brown Mortuary, 27010 Encanto Drive, Sun City, CA on Wednesday, August 29 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Veteran's Memorial Service in Celebration of Skeets' life will be held at 1:15 pm, on Thursday, August 30, at the National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA.
