Harry C. Shank

April 2, 1943 – August 27, 2017

Harry C. Shank 74, of Temecula and San Diego, passed away peacefully at his home in Temecula early Sunday August 27, 2017.  Harry was surrounded by family and secure in the love of our Lord.

Harry was born in Reno, Nevada on April 2, 1943.  He grew up in Coronado, CA, graduated from Coronado High School in 1961; and married Mary Cinnamo in 1964.  Harry proudly served his country in the Air Force for 8 years, distinguishing himself with numerous awards including but certainly not limited to; Airman of the Year 1966 (Cryptologic).  After serving in the Air Force, Harry went on to further serve his country by joining the Army Reserve and California National Guard.

Harry was an eager and active participant in service organizations; including the Optimist Club; Boy & Girls Club, and the Rotary Club in both Murrieta and Temecula.  Additionally, Harry served as President and Treasurer of the Southwestern College Foundation; and received an Honorary Degree from the College in 1996.  While Harry’s other service commitments are too numerous to mention, Harry joyfully lived by the ‘service above self’ motto of Rotary International.

Harry’s commitment to the communities that he served is an amazing testament to the values by which he lived.  Not only did all of these organizations receive the benefit of Harry’s time, dedication, joyful smile and eager participation; Harry loved participating and would encourage family and others to join in.

Harry’s civilian career took him to the world of finance, working in several financial organizations before finding a home in the banking world.  Harry worked at several banks throughout his career; and again, brought a sense of commitment, dedication and professionalism to his work.  He was well loved by employees and customers alike.

Harry is survived by his wife Sharene, sons, Brian (Liz) and Kevin (Cyndi); grandchildren, Brahm and Brianne; sister; Dona (Roy) of Wilmington, NC; brother Richard (Michele) of Farmington, MN; stepchildren; Tara (Robert); Trina (Michele); step grandchildren; Billy, Mia and Natalie.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary, his mother Dorothea King; Stepfather Marcus King and his father Harold C. Ainsley, who was killed in the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1943, having never met his son.

Harry will be remembered as an energetic and joyfully happy person.  He brought that same joy and love of life to his wife, family those he worked with, worked for and all who knew him.  His ever present smile gave way to a twinkle in his eyes and made one wonder just what he was up to.

Rest in peace, Pancho!

Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery, Thursday, September 21, at 10:15 am.  A celebration of Harry’s life will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Rancho Community Church beginning at 10:00 am.
