Tribute

Jerome “Jerry” David Granich

Jerry passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2022 in Menifee, California.  He was born on May 10, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Jesse and Marcella (Mathews) Granich.

Jerry served his country in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic (Safety Equipment) Third Class Petty Officer (AME3) during a tumultuous time in U.S. history with the invasion of Laos by North Vietnam and the Bay of Pigs invasion by Cuban exiles.  Assigned to Heavy Photographic Squadron (VAP-62) home based at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, he made two Mediterranean deployments onboard the USS Saratoga (CVA-60), a Forrestal-class aircraft carrier.

He married the former Linda Conway prior to joining the Navy and they later divorced.  He then married Dianna J. Foster on September 29, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and were married for 54 years at his passing.

After his service in the U.S. Navy, Jerry returned to Southern California raising his family and going into business as a floor covering contractor where he operated businesses in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Riverside Counties.  Jerry and his wife, Dianna, were owners of a floor covering business for over 45 years.  He enjoyed water and snow skiing, going horseback riding, boxer dogs, NASCAR racing, and weightlifting; in fact, he was a champion body builder while serving in the U.S. Navy.  Jerry remained a body builder well into his 70’s and frequented the gyms in Menifee, California.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dianna Granich; his children, Michael (Cindy) Bush of Irvine, California, Jay (Debra) Bush of Portland, Oregon, and Debra (Scott) Mann of Menifee, California; his seven grandchildren, Lindsey (Amanda) Saugstad of Portland, Oregon, Kalie (Alex) Gould of Carlsbad, California, Tyler (Alyssa) Mann of Menifee, California, Melissa Bush of Napa, California, and Chelsea Bush of Venice, California, Xaja Bush of Minot, North Dakota, and Saxja Bush of Houston, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Mann, Jordan Mann, and Talia Gould; and his sisters, Donna Bales and Wendy McClellan.  He was preceded in death by his parents and baby daughter Joanne Granich on November 11, 1959.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 1:00 pm at New Hope Community Church, Canyon Lake, California.
