Tribute

Lenon T Gie Sr, was born Monday January 7th, 1929 in Ethel, Louisiana.  As the oldest of seventeen children, he quickly established himself as the leader of his siblings whom affectionately referred to him as “Brother”.

Lenon attended McKinley high school where he developed a reputation for being studious and getting straight A’s. After graduating from McKinley high school, Lenon would enroll into Leland College in pursuits of a Bachelor Science degree. Lenon graduated from Leland College May 25th of 1950 with a B.S in science and mathematics. Subsequently November 1950, Lenon was drafted in the United State Army where he served two years at CAMP Chaffey during the Korean War. Upon returning, Lenon would teach math and science at the newly built Capital Senior High School.

In 1960, Lenon relocated to California where he continued to work with kids as a Deputy Juvenile Probation Officer. “Mr. Gie” as the kids called him was known to be stern but fair with all of his interactions. Doing so earned him the respect of colleagues, children assigned to him, as well as their families.

Lenon met Cassanda Caldwell. Their friendship would later turn into love and in May of 1985 they were married. Lenon and Cassandra Gie would relocate to Moreno Valley, California where Lenon continued to work with at risk youth until his retirement in January of 1991. Upon retirement Lenon would be ordained as deacon where he would continue to serve as a role model to the many members of his family and extended community.

On January 14, 2023 in Moreno Valley, California Lenon went home to be with the Lord.  He is survived by his children;  Thi Juan “TJ” Cook, Lenon T Gie II and Adonte Gie; his grandchildren, Dania Murdock, Lenon T Gie III, Erynn Cook, Ashton Gie, Rhikki Cook, Teri Gie, Morgan Gie, Alexander Gie, Jevon Weems, Jodice Weems; his siblings, Mattie Ballard, Essie Matthews, Warren” Sonny” Matthews, Clarence Matthews, Gerry Banks, Bennie Matthews, Betty Robertson, James Lloyd Matthews, Curtis Matthews; a host of other family members and friends. The Lords Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
