Tribute

Mary Nettles, 95 years old, passed away peacefully in her home in Murrieta, California on February 26, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Roe Nettles, 69 years old, who passed away peacefully in their home in Tampa, Florida on June 28, 1997.

Both were born in 1928 and met in New York City and married on October 19, 1946 at the age of 18 years old.  They were married 50 years and built a life together filled with unwavering love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their commitment to each other was a testament to the power of true partnership.  They are survived by their three daughters, Maryanne Starr, Cheryl Surguine, and Tara Surguine and Son-in Law, John Surguine.  They have six grandchildren (Jennifer, Nicole, Charlie, Christopher, Alison and Aubree) and six great grandchildren (Ryan, Hazel, Devin, Christopher Jr., Colton and Cameron) and her special dog Honey, who will sadly miss her.

They left behind a legacy of love, warmth, and indelible memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing them.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandma, great grandma and friend. She was known for her kindness and entertaining sense of humor.  Being the last of the fourth generation, she was the strong matriarch of the family who was loved and respected and gave great hugs.  She touched the lives of all that knew her with her loving presence.

Les was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa, great grandpa, and pillar of strength for those around him. His wisdom, humor, and steady presence were constants that provided a sense of security and love.

Together, Mary and Les worked tirelessly to provide for their family, overcoming challenges and obstacles with determination and resilience. Their dedication to creating a stable and loving home was a testament to their selflessness and strong work ethic.

They leave behind a legacy of hard work, sacrifice, and the importance of family bonds. Their impact is evident in the values instilled in their children, who have grown to appreciate the significance of diligence and perseverance.

A joint memorial service to celebrate the lives of Mary and Les will be held on March 18th at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to ASPCA www.aspca.org/donate or Boys Town www.boystown.org/donate in their honor.

Mom and Dad will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing them, but their love, work ethic, and impact will endure in the hearts of their family and friends. May they rest in eternal peace, reunited in the embrace of a love that transcends this earthly realm.
