Lester Henry Maitlen, 94 passed at home in Sun City, Ca. on Saturday November 2, 2019.
Les was a stern but loving father. His interests included Sudoku puzzles, dancing and playing board and card games with his family. He enjoyed watching Huell Houser and sports events on television. Les had a great sense of humor and loved giving his family and friends what he called “free advice”.
Les joined the Navy when he was just 17yrs old and proudly served his country in WWII. During his service he was awarded the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Area Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon.
After his military service he became a sprinkler fitter with Local 709 for 35 years. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge.
Les is survived by Jeanetta Maitlen and 4 of their 5 children. Les Maitlen his wife Chris, Cathi Van Alyne her husband Walt, Debie Maitlen and her partner Tim Brawn, and Julia Parrish her husband Harvey. Two brothers Ed Maitlen and Gene Maitlen as well as many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Les was preceded in death by his son Bill Maitlen.
The Maitlen family would like to thank Salus Hospice Care for the loving care they provided during our father’s final days.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Lester Maitlen’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
There will be a graveside service and military honors performed at Riverside National Cemetery on February 6th, 2020.
