Born in El Paso, Texas to Ernest and Vivian Cortazar, Lynda was the oldest of three siblings. Together with Cindy and Ernie, they would later move to Downey, CA in 1960. She attended Warren High School and after graduating, was later introduced to her future husband David on a blind date. The date did not go so well, but on a very special vacation, she fell head over heels in love and left her heart in San Francisco. They were later married on May 6, 1972 in Lynwood, CA.
Over the years, Lynda was a Flight Attendant with TWA and, also worked at North American Rockwell during the great space race. As an Executive Assistant, she worked along side astronauts like Buzz Aldren and Neil Amrstrong.
In 1980, she would give birth to her son, Geoffrey and later to her daughter Brianna in 1986. At that time, she would stay at home and raise her two children, while supporting her husband David’s 30 year career with the Downey Police Department.
In 1998, after her husband retired, her son graduated and her daughter was out of elementary school, they would all move to Murrieta, CA where she would live out the rest of her years with her family. With a passion for traveling, scrap-booking, decorating and making her famous “Mama Lynda’s Margaritas,” the home in Murrieta would become a welcoming place to gather with friends and family alike. In December of 2020, her life dream of becoming a Grandma would finally come true as Lorelai Eve was brought into this world.
On the afternoon of Sunday, October 24, 2021, Lynda would lose her battle with liver cancer. Surrounded by her family, she was held, consoled and reassured that her family would be strong for her as she slipped away and was finally free from pain. She will be missed, but her memory will live on forever.
