Milton Gene Wheaton passed away peacefully on Dec 31, 2015 at the age of 80, at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs after suffering from a traumatic head injury due to a fall at his home in Hemet.
He was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma in a Post Office on an Indian reservation. His parents were Bert and Ruth Wheaton.  He had 7 siblings: Maxine, Wanda, Mona, Buddy, Ronnie, Glen, Donnie and Gary. His closest friends were Bill Ward (friends from his early military service days) and Bob Thompson (his buddy who visited twice a year from England).
He married Theresa Joyce Bryant in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 23, 1956 and spent many wonderful years with her until she passed away on June 2, 2004. Gene and Joyce have 3 children and two grandchildren who survive them. Their children are Gary and his wife, Nerissa, Denise and Anita and their grandchildren are Alyssa and Charli.
He spent a brilliant career in the military as a criminal investigator, ending his career at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. An example of one of his many accomplishments was when he was awarded the United States Legion of Merit from President Nixon for exceptionally meritorious conduct in his performance as the Narcotics and Smuggling Advisor of the United States Military Mission with the Imperial Iranian Gendarmerie from May 1971 through July 1973. He retired from the military on Jun 30, 1975. After that he spent many years as a private investigator consultant. Then retired and spent his remaining years in Winchester and Hemet, CA and will be missed by his many, many friends and family in the area.
His funeral services will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery on Monday, January 11, 2015 at 9:15 AM.
