Nadine “Deanie” Marie Bruce of Homeland, CA died on November 6, 2021, after a brief illness. Deanie was the last of her parents James and Esther Morris’ five children, she was born on September 23, 1946, in El Centro, CA.
As a teenager, Deanie was active in the Huntington Beach Assembly of God Church in Huntington Beach, CA. It was while attending the church youth group, at the age of thirteen (13) that a tall and strapping young man, Vernon “Vern” John Bruce, caught her eye. A couple of years later they would have their first date on a youth group outing to Disneyland, and six months later they were married in the church where they met on June 9, 1962, by the church’s pastor, Deanie’s beloved brother-in-law, Rev. Alton L. Childers. Theirs’ was a love affair that did not end until Vern’s death on April 26, 2005, and even then, those that knew Deanie knew her love for Vern was a love without end.
Deanie and Vern’s happy union produced two beautiful daughters whom they loved and cherished with all of their hearts. Linda Kaye was born on November 19, 1964, and Jamie Kaye Lynn was born on January 8, 1984. While raising her daughters Deanie devoted herself entirely to being a stay-at-home mother and a homemaker. It was not until after the family settled in Homeland, CA and Jamie was in school that Deanie started her career in a job she loved thoroughly. In 1990, Deanie went to work as a campus supervisor at Harvest Valley Elementary School in Homeland, CA. What Deanie loved most about this job was her ability to befriend and counsel students and the relationships she formed with teachers and staff. Deanie retired from the school district in 2007 and even after her retirement she continued to receive calls and visits from former students. Deanie always enjoyed catching up with former students and running into her former colleagues around town.
Deanie was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband of forty-two (42) years Vernon “Vern” John Bruce, her daughter Linda Kaye Stevenson, her brothers John Morris, Jerald Morris, and Raymond Tyler, and her sisters Geraldine Childers and Francis Turner.
Deanie is survived by her daughter, best friend, and constant companion Jamie Bruce, her foster daughter Deborah Tyler, her sister Darlene, her son-in-law John Stevenson, her grandson John Vernon Stevenson his wife Kayla, and their two (2) daughters Brooklynn and Teagan, her grandson Ian Scott Stevenson his wife Ashley, and their three (3) children Brody, Summer, and Ian, Jr., her grandson Joshua Michael Stevenson his wife Yipren, and their two (2) children Christie, and Joshua, Jr, and numerous nieces and nephews.
