Patricia Ann Maskell

March 23, 1938 ~ January 18, 2021 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

Surrounded by her children and a lot of love, Patricia Ann Maskell passed away on January 18, 2021 at the age of 82 from Parkinson’s Disease.  Anyone who knew her will say she did so with a song in her heart and in pursuit of watching the sunset on the beach.

Pat was born on March 23, 1938 in Baltimore, MD, the only child of D. Chester and Lorretta M. (McGrain) O’Sullivan where she attended the Institute of Notre Dame High School.  She married her favorite midshipman, Charles Michael (Mike), at the U.S. Naval Academy.  They were married for 55 years until Mike’s passing in 2015.  When Mike retired after 30 years in the Navy, they moved to New Jersey and eventually settled in Southern California where they both enjoyed the benefits of full retirement.

Pat worked for Eastern Airlines and then as a travel agent for over 25 years.  She had a passion for music and played the guitar, ukulele, banjo and piano.  She directed folk groups that included her children and their friends at every duty station during Mike’s navy career.  One of her proudest accomplishments was singing with Sweet Adeline’s for more than 20 years and being a part of a chorus that won the International Chorus Championship.

Pat’s greatest passion was her children and grandchildren.  Wherever the Maskell’s lived, it was the house where her kids and their friends hung out.  She gave her kids some of the best and most fun experiences of their lives, including taking 20 teenagers in an RV to sleep on the streets for the Rose Parade and driving to LA to watch the celebrities go into the Academy Awards. Her grandkids will remember her as Granny who taught them that there is nothing wrong with cake and ice cream for breakfast.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and husband.  She is survived by her four children and their spouses:  Dawn, Shawn (Pamela), Shannon Murphy (Pat) and Erin Rea (Scott), as well as her six grandchildren Colleen, Brandon, Molly, Abby, Tyler and Brendan.

Pat’s remains will be laid to rest with Mike at the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.  In lieu of a service and flowers, it would make her heart sing to have donations made in her name to one of the below programs.
