Phyllis Deason was born on August 9th, 1953, to the loving parents of Walter Edwin Alford, and Patricia Ruth Alford. Phyllis was the first born and oldest of 5 siblings (Walter Jr, Jeffrey, Yolanda and Kenneth). Phyllis grew up as a loving child and was raised in Mead Valley. She would often tend for her younger siblings and thrived in the area of academics. Phyllis attended local schools in the area and graduated from Perris Highschool, class or 1972. Phyllis earned good marks and was voted most likely to succeed by her peers.
Shortly after graduation, Phyllis met Matthew Fletcher and the two of them were married. Phyllis and Matthew would have one child together and welcomed their daughter Crystle on November 27th, 1974. A few years later, Phyllis would face tragedy as she lost her husband to a heart attack and would begin working in sales. After caring for her daughter and working, Phyllis met Claudell and the two of them wed shortly after. They were married September 9th, 1978. Phyllis and Claudell moved to Compton and spent years there raising Crystle. In May of 1981, Phyllis and Claudell welcomed their son Sedric. The family would spend 4 more years in the area, before uprooting to Moreno Valley, where they would spend the next 12 years. During this time, Phyllis worked hard to be a good mother, wife and manage her blossoming career. Phyllis thrived while working at Mervyn’s due to her devout work ethic and ability to connect with her customers. Phyllis loved her job and earned multiple awards including sales associate and employee of the year.
Phyllis perhaps is best known for her beautiful smile, strong work ethic, big heart, love for fitness and exercise, love for gin rummy, and ability to make the best tacos in the family. She was soft spoken but strong and would use her voice when needed. Phyllis’ life would change again in 1999, when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Phyllis approached the situation as she had done all other challenges in her life, by meeting it head on. The disease took a toll on her and her body, but she always remained hopeful and optimistic. Phyllis passed away on October 22nd, 2021, at 6:05 am at Parkview Hospital. She will be greatly missed and leaves behind multiple family members including her husband (Claudell), daughter (Crystle), son (Sedric), brother (Walter), brother (Kenneth), sister (Yolonda), grandchild (Tahj), great grand Child (Amir) and multiple other family members.
