Tribute

Raymond Joseph Staley, a cherished patriarch and respected community member, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024, in Murrieta, California, at the venerable age of 96. Born on August 14, 1927, in Billings, Montana, Raymond was a man of wisdom, love, and adventure, whose life’s journey was as rich and fulfilling as the many lives he touched.

Raymond's early years were spent in the open skies of Montana, where he developed a strong foundation that would carry him through a life of remarkable achievements and loving relationships. After completing high school, Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. His service was recognized with the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal, honors that reflected his dedication and courage.

Following his military service, Raymond embarked on a distinguished career with Northrop Aircraft Manufacturing Division, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision as Vice President for 35 years. His work ethic and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on the industry and provided a stable and loving home for his family.

Raymond was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis Jean Staley who entered eternal life on May 7th, 2023.  Raymond met Phyllis shortly before his years of service in 1943. After returning home, Raymond and Phyllis married in the year 1949. They have been married in a loving relationship for 74 of the 80 years together.  He is survived by a loving family that includes his son, Stephen Staley of Canyon Lake; daughters, Sharon Graner of Solvang and Shelly Evans of Lake Elsinore; nine grandchildren, Steven, Stefanie, George, Tammy, Jeffrey, Kevin, Kimberly, Casey, and Brooke; thirteen great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Amaris, Samuel, Gabriel, Kaylee, Khloe, Scarlett, Seth, Delilah, Emery, Chance, Nova, Sloane, Isla, and Morgan; and one great-great-grandchild, Evelyn Staley. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and the legacy of love he instilled in them.

An avid golfer, Raymond was a member of both a golf and rotary club, finding joy and camaraderie on the greens. He was also an active participant in the Roadrunner Travel Club, where he shared his love for exploration with others. Norway held a special place in his heart as his favorite travel destination, a testament to his adventurous spirit.

Those who knew Raymond will remember him as a man of wisdom, whose advice and guidance were sought by many. His loving nature was evident in the warmth and care he extended to all, and his adventurous soul inspired those around him to seek out the beauty in the world.

As we bid farewell to Raymond Joseph Staley, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a legacy of love and wisdom that will continue to guide us. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched.
