Richard Blowers

Dr. Richard T. Blowers (94) passed peacefully at his home in Riverside on October 21st, 2018 surrounded by his family. Richard, known to his friends and family as “Doc” was born on June 28th, 1924 in Denver, Colorado to Fern and Henry Blowers and was the older of two sons. Doc was raised in Long Beach, California along with his brother Bob and he enjoyed spending time at the beach, body surfing and life guarding. 

After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Doc joined the Navy and attended Colorado College as part of Officer training and was honorably discharged in 1946. Doc continued his education after his time in the Navy and graduated from Los Angeles College of Optometry in 1953.

Doc purchased his first Optometry practice located in Perris, California in 1956 and became an active member of the growing Perris community, being involved in the Rotary Club and a member of the VFW. Doc lived in Perris until 1968 when he moved to Riverside when he was able to buy his dream home, which he lived in until his death.

Doc owned five different Optometry practices, four of which are still in operation today. He enjoyed his yearly trip to Eye Ski in Park City, Utah and his trips to Hawaii.

Doc is survived by his wife Darla, children George, Terri (Mike) and Sandy (Steve) and 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Judes Childrens’ Hospital. Interment will be at the National Cemetery located in Riverside, California on November 2nd, 2018 at 9:15 a.m.
