Tribute

Walter Alfred Blakley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, in Oceanside, California, at the age of 84. Born on April 18, 1939, in Davis, California, Walter's journey through life was marked by his infectious laughter, boundless love, and the joy he brought to those around him.

Walter's early years were spent in Ventura & Orange Counties.  He met the love of his life, Josephine in Westminster, California where he was working as a mechanic.  After getting married, they moved to Riverside County, where he started his career working alongside his family at their farm in Perris, California. His love for food and service led him to a fulfilling career as a cook, first with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, then Banning Road Camp and later at an Assisted Living Facility in Hemet. Walter's culinary talents were not just a profession but a means to spread warmth and happiness, a testament to his giving nature.

He shared 61 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Josephine Blakley.  Together, they built a family foundation of love and laughter, welcoming five children, Sonny James Blakley, Andrew William Blakley, Russell Curtis Blakly, Elaina Marie Gravitt, and Stacey Lynn Hiatt. Walter's legacy continued to flourish with the joy of seven grandchildren—Russell, Lisha, Teresa, Renee, Brandon, Nicholas, and Candace—and a host of great-grandchildren, who will miss their Poppa deeply.

Walter was the heart of a large family.  He is survived by seven siblings, Chuck, Ruby, Annie, Pat, Jerry, Donnie, and Mike, as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his two children, Andrew William Blakley and Russell Curtis Blakley, and his siblings, Mary, Helen, Cecil, and Alfred Jr. His life was a tapestry woven with the threads of their shared experiences and memories.

A man of quick wit and great humor, Walter could light up a room with his jokes and stories. His kind-hearted and helpful nature made him a pillar in his community, always there to lend a hand or offer a word of support. He lived his life with honesty and love, valuing the simple pleasures over materialistic pursuits.

Walter's adventurous spirit was complemented by a wild streak that kept his loved ones on their toes, always guessing what fun escapade he would suggest next. Despite this, he was a very content man, finding happiness in the company of his family and friends, and in the joy of sitting by a lake with his fishing pole and a beer.

The nickname 'Silver Fox' was lovingly bestowed upon him by his wife, capturing his charming and playful character. Walter's approach to life was one of love and adventure, and his presence was synonymous with fun and laughter. His absence will leave a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide them.

As we bid farewell to Walter Alfred Blakley, we celebrate the life of a man who touched so many with his generous spirit and loving heart. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and love—a legacy that will be carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Walter's life was a journey of compassion and merriment, and his story will be told with fondness for generations to come.

In honoring Walter's life, we reflect on the happiness he spread and the lives he enriched. His memory will be treasured, his lessons remembered, and his love felt always. Rest in peace, Walter; your life was a beautiful melody that will resonate forever.
