Yvette M. Tyler, age 81, passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2020, at home in Aguanga surrounded by her children. She was born in Maine on January 22nd, 1939 to Gilbert and Cecile Castonguay. Yvette was a loving sister to four brothers, Emile, Lucian, Leo and Francis, and one sister, Gilberte. Yvette is survived by her five children, Rochelle, Bobby, Timmy, Vanette and Matthew, fourteen grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
In 1968, Yvette and her family moved to the Sage area of Aguanga to be closer to family, where she settled for the remainder of her life. Yvette’s father helped start the Sage Volunteer Fire Department, while Yvette and her mother served with the local Women’s Auxiliary. During that time, Yvette and her mother supported the community with many fundraising efforts, including an annual pancake breakfast. This was only the beginning of Yvette’s long history of community service in Aguanga.
Yvette found her calling as a dedicated Instructional Aide for special needs children at Cottonwood Elementary School, where she worked for 25 years prior to retiring. There she impacted the lives of many children through her tough yet loving personality, creative imagination, and tireless fundraising efforts. One particular fundraising endeavor included utilizing a donated greenhouse, and selling plants to raise field trip funds for students at Cottonwood Elementary.
Yvette was a long standing member of the Cottonwood Country Council where she helped organize food baskets for those in need during the holidays. This, in addition to being a member of the Cottonwood PTA, where she led countless fundraising activities, is just a glimpse into how much Yvette supported her community and those in need. She had an enormous heart and was always willing to help.
Most of all, Yvette loved her family and instilled strong values in her children and grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by her family and her community, and forever in our hearts
