Matthew John Mulvihill

Matthew John Mulvihill entered eternal life on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at home in Menifee, California. Matthew was one of three children to parents Leo and Helen Mulvihill. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he attended John Bartram High School. Matthew joined the US Navy Reserves and after a year with the Reserves, he enlisted in the United States Army. He is a Korean War Veteran and served with the Army Security Agency. Matthew married Leona Monroe and together they had 4 children; Leo, Donna, Matthew and John. They raised their children in Philadelphia, Florida, and New Hampshire. Leona passed suddenly in 1977. Matthew met Sharron Lynne Fisher, a coworker at the time, while working at North American Philips.  They married September 23, 1978 on a boat in the San Diego Harbor. They made their home in San Diego where they lived for many years. Together they owned and operated an electronics business, ‘The Rep Company’ for 20 years. Matthew also worked for Neumann, an electronics distributor, for 10 years before retiring. They also owned G&M Manufacturing in Oceanside, for many years. Matthew and Sharron moved to Menifee, California in 2002.  

Matthew was adventurous by nature. He was a flight instructor and was multi engine and instrument rated. He enjoyed scuba diving, boating, shooting, photography, and collecting guns and coins. He was employed early in the space industry, from ’59 to ’63. He enjoyed watching the History and Military channels and was an original ‘Trekkie’ from the ‘60’s. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather. He respected others and stood up for what was right. His family laughed as they recalled a pushing match he once got into with Marlin Brando at a New York restaurant for rude behavior towards the staff.  

Matthew is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sharron Lynne Mulvihill; 3 children; Leo M. Mulvihill and wife Chris (Lansdale, PA);  Matthew J. Mulvihill and wife Laura (Fountain Valley, CA); and John P. Mulvihill; 4 grandchildren Sean P. (Huntington Beach), Leo M. Jr. (Philadelphia), Brendan (Brooklyn, NY), and Cailin M. (Philadelphia) . He was preceded in death by his wife Leona A. Monroe; parents Leo M. and Helen F. Mulvihill; daughter Donna M. Mulvihill; step-daughter Dawn Ann Hayward; sister Leona and brother Terrence P.

Matthew’s family will receive friends and family for a time of visitation and viewing from 3-7PM, Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Evans Brown Mortuary in Sun City, California. Catholic Funeral Mass of Christian Burial Rite will be at 1:30PM, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Sun City, California. Private burial services will occur at the Riverside National Cemetery on a later date.
