Welcome to the memorial page for

Ricky Allen King

December 21, 1953 ~ April 6, 2014 (age 60) 60 Years Old
Ricky Allen King entered eternal life Sunday, April 6, 2014 at home in Menifee, California. Ricky was the oldest of 4 children born to parents George and Martha King. He was born in Fayette, Missouri and at the age of 10, his family moved to San Francisco, California. A few years later, Ricky's father passed suddenly and his family moved to Los Angeles County, California. They lived in Compton where he  graduated from Compton High, Class of '72 and attended Compton Community College. Ricky went on to serve in the United States Navy for over 20 years before retiring at the rank of Petty Officer. It was in Compton where Ricky met the love of his life, his neighbor and childhood sweetheart, Terry Patterson. He and his teenage bride wed November 8, 1974 at Lily of the Valley Chapel in Los Angeles. "Straight Outta Compton!" Ricky and Terry moved to East San Diego for a short time before finding a home in Rancho Penasquitas (San Diego County). Together, they had 2 children, Rason and Rictera. The family lived in Rancho Penasquitas for 12 years before moving to New York where Ricky was a recruiting officer for 4 years. From New York, it was back to San Diego, California where Ricky retired at Naval Air Station Miramar. Ricky and Terry moved to Menifee, CA 19 years ago.

Ricky was the life of the party and was loved by all who met him. He was loving, caring, and a father to all he knew. He was always checking up on people. He was known as “Old Cool Ricky” or “Old Cool Smooth Ricky”. He loved MUSIC! From Jazz to Soul to Blues, he especially liked ‘Bootsy Collins’ and ‘Parliament’. He kept active around the house fixing cars, finding whatever else needed fixing, and was always developing something. Ricky had an innovative mind. He was jack of all trades; and a master mechanic. Ricky could tell friends what was wrong with their car by listening to the motor over the phone. He was a Raiders and Lakers fan, staying true to his LA roots. He enjoyed watching Sci-Fi shows like ‘Twilight’, ‘Avatar’, and ‘The Walking Dead’. He also put up with Terry’s shows, ‘Scandal’ and the ‘Haves and the Have Nots’.

Ricky is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Terry King; son Rason and daughter Rictera; mother Martha; brother Charles; sisters Lorraine and Onita; sister-in-law  Sherry and husband Daryl Bryson; sister-in-law Claudia  and husband Ralph Hebert; sister-in-law Julia  and husband Dan L. Patterson; sister-in-law Mertie Patterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ricky was preceded in death by his father George.
