Obituary for Robert E. Elgie

Robert E. Elgie was born on August 1, 1922 in the town of Bowbells, ND.  He was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2017.

He spent his childhood years in North Dakota before a family move, along with his four siblings, to Brockton, MT, where he would later graduate high school and would work at the local grocery store. It was after getting this job he that he was able to buy his mother her first washing machine, so she could finally retire the old scrub board.

His life would forever be altered after he moved to California as a young man and settled in Santa Ana, CA. It was there that he met the love of his life, Maxine Baker, and set in motion the foundation for all of the family that was to come. They were married on April 7, 1944 just days before he shipped out to the Pacific Theater after he volunteered for duty during World War II. They would be married and nearly inseparable for almost 72 years until Maxine was called home on April 2, 2016.

After he returned home from the war, Robert and Maxine would have two daughters, and he would build up a successful accounting business that Maxine would help him run for many years. Robert would work at his accounting business until he reached the age of 92 years old before finally retiring. He said working helped to keep his mind sharp. In the meantime, Robert and Maxine raised two daughters and helped to raise all six of their grandsons.

Robert was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maxine. He is survived by his two Daughters, Elaine Love of Menifee, Diana Haigh of Riverside; his only surviving Brother, Marvin Elgie of Alexandria, MN; his six Grandchildren, Michael Hull, David (Lindsay) Hull, Gary (Ariana) Love, John Haigh, James Haigh and Brian Haigh; and his four Great Grandchildren William Michael Hull, Hannah Hull, Emily Hull and Madelyn Hull.
